It would be great to use a laptop, but if USB stuff is not up to the task screw it. Any lower on that machine and the going got rough.

Here is an example of what you may easily identify as a typical interference in a PCI card, the Sound Blaster line of products, if you raise your volume above unity gain when the fader is at the longer line on your volume fader, usualy at the middle and record something, when you will listen to the soft passages or silent ones you will hear a steady sawthoot-like wave, its your hard drive spretty bad.
